6 Essential Settings to WordPress setup:

First time, When you install WordPress, you get a stock installation with a few things like a dummy post, a dummy page, and a dummy comment. So the first thing to do,

1. Move trans to Default Post, Page, and Comment

Log in to your WordPress Admin dashboard and go to Dashboard > Posts > All Posts and Move Trans to the default “Hello world or sample post” post.

Similarly, go to Dashboard > Pages > All Pages and Move Trans to the default “dummy page”.

And finally, click on “Comments” and Move trans to the default WordPress comment.

2. Set Your Timezone and Enable/Disable User Registration

This settings are found in Dashboard > Settings > General.

Make sure to set your timezone to your local time in UTC so that when you schedule posts, they will go live according to your time.

The next settings are found in Dashboard > Settings > General.

You need to decide if you are going to have a multi-author blog (like STeeMSEO), or if you are going to be the sole author.

To allow this, tick off the “Anyone can register” box, and set the “New User Default Role” as “Contributor”. Otherwise set the role as “subscriber”.

Note: You can also change your site title and tagline on Settings < General

3. Index Your post fast, Ping settings

Go to Dashboard > Settings > Writing and add in more services to the ping list.

For Fast indexing your post, fill your writing settings with a list of pings services. By default, WordPress only pings one service. But you can notify many more services by extending the ping list. This feature is most essential for SEO purpose.

Copy This entire list of ping services and paste it to Dashboard > Settings > Writing .

4. WordPress Discussion/Comments Settings

Now, go to Dashboard > Settings > Discussion. Modify all settings according to your needs.

5. WordPress Media and image settings

you get this settings on Dashboard > Settings > Media.

I would also highly recommend that you add a plugin which compresses images as they’re uploaded or make optimized image using Photoshop.

6. Permalinks, a way to show your URL style

The default WordPress permalink is –

This permalink is short, but not friendly for search engines. A better permalinks shows main keywords in URL. Change your default permalink style.

Go to Settings > Permalink and select “Post name”.

Click “Save”.
