Performing Keyword research using Google Autosuggest Tool, Google keyword tools, KWfinder and SEMRUSH:
Here our target is to find some amount of low competitive but high-medium traffic Keyword (targeted words or phrases) using Google search Autosuggest, Google Keyword Planner tool, KWfinder & SEMRUSH.
We will be using KWfinder or SEMRUSH to analyze the competition of a targeted word. Basically, this would help us determine how easy or hard it is to rank for a certain keyword (word or phrase).
Now, before we start to ask yourself:
Which one of these is better?
Getting 500 untargeted visitors or 100 targeted one?
If your answer is “Targeted Traffic”, then don’t leave those keywords with low traffic such as 10 or 100 per month. Since it’s relevant to your niche, in the longer run it will help you. Make sure to check “Google Autosuggest” too, which will help you to check your target keyword traffic pattern over the time. this tool shows that most used keywords in short duration.
#1: Discover Keyword using Google Autosuggest Tool or Instant search:
Google Autosuggest search is my first basis of finding a perfect Keyword for my every article. It’s more like a Keyword Research tool, which you can use to generate tons of keyword ideas. Though you can’t use all of them, for initial step, it’s good to brainstorm some ideas for Keyword planning. Put any words related to your niche, for example; I started typing “how to use keyword planner” and Google Autosuggest Tool suggested “how to use keyword planner for free” and more search results. Depending on your post type, you can pick a couple of them which make sense to you. Look at this screenshot:Once you have found 4-5 Keywords, start adding it to Google Keyword Planner tool and perform a search. So I picked three keywords from the list: “keyword planner”, “how to use keyword planner” & “How To Use Google Keyword Planner For Free” as all are similar and make sense for my niche, and I can come up with a post on that. Now next step is to find if these three Keywords are going to do any benefit regarding traffic, or just going to be another article with not much value from traffic Point of view.
Let’s move on to the next step:
#2: Keyword Research analysis
Now, I will put all three Keywords in Google Keyword Planner tool and perform a search, it will give me details for search type I’m performing and also show relevant Keyword ideas. Now, that is keyword golden goose for you, as it will let you find many relevant Keywords that you can target in the same post or else can come up with a follow-up post.I usually target 2-3 long tail and 1 short Keywords/post. You can create your own SEO strategy depending on your content quality and length. So, for the information sake, we have selected only Three keywords as shown in above picture, and it’s time to check, which one of them is less competitive and can give me maximum traffic.
Note: Google Keyword planner changed his interface and it’s completely different from old one, so you can also switch back to the previous planner.
Checking Keyword competition (Less or high) using SEMRUSH:
Once you have identified and collected the keyword on Google Keyword Planner, next thing is to check the, what’s the keyword competition is?, or you can call it ‘Keyword difficulty.’ This is just to measure how difficult or hard it is to rank for a certain keyword (targeted word or phrase).
Note: Guys, If you are going to create an authority micro niche type site, you should target all possible keyword, despite difficulty level.
Guys, I generally use SEMRUSH for checking the keyword competition & it is also convenient(hand-picked) to find related keywords that I usually place around the post. Let me explain what I meant by an example.
I searched for a Keyword “Keyword Planner” in SEMRUSH tool & this is the result that I got.In the screenshot, you can see Keyword (Keyword Planner) with their variation along with volume data. On the below, you can see the related Keywords which is not so different, but it varies a lot when you are researching keyword for the different niche.
Note: Do pay attention to Column call CPC (COST PER CLICK). This is useful for anyone who is using Google AdSense Monetization Network to make money from their blog content. The higher the CPC for any keyword is & if you rank higher in search engine for that keyword, you are more likely to earn huge money from a single click from Google Adsense. I will talk about this later in details.
Back to the above screenshot, clicking on view full reports would show a detailed picture of information about all related keywords. First, have a clear look at the below screenshot:I have highlighted Keyword competition for advertiser in keyword competition column with the red box. Though; this detail is only for advertisers, but it would give you a good idea of what Keyword you should target for high profit. As you can see here, according to competition checker tool, “How to use keyword planner” and “How To Use Google Keyword Planner For Free” is easier to rank.
If you are looking something from a blogger or publisher point of view to rank an article for a keyword, then use KWFinder or focus on KD(Keyword Difficulty) in SEMERUSH Tool.
KWFinder shows Keyword SEO Difficulty based on factors such as domain age, the number of Quality backlinks, on Page SEO, Google page rank, Domain authority & Page authority and few other significant factors. You can also click on “Analyze SERP” to see more detailed results for your competitor on the search engine.
Do always remember that when you going to write an article or making a post keyword targeted, you need to have Keywords in your article Title, meta description, and H1 tag. Take care of keyword density in your post, LSI keyword & few other signals.
Along with all mentioned points, Quality backlinks and social media engagement are one major factor for better ranking. Also, my suggestion for you is always to ensure your domain expiry date is not until next three to four years.
So now, we have one or two keywords with us, and similarly, you can find lots of keywords related to your niche. It might be the little time-consuming, but it’s worth more than spending un-targeted hundred posts. Now, your next target should be writing a Keyword rich article (SEO writing).
Never forget, this Keyword planning is just a primary step in blog writing, and real magic starts with your content. Furthermore, never try to get traffic on the wrong or inappropriate keyword, as it will affect your overall blog performance regarding Average on-site Time and bounce rate.
For your old blog posts, if you have not optimized them for any targeted Keyword, you can use Google analytic data and Keyword Planner for Keyword research and work on re-optimization for different Keyword. I did this for almost 50% of my old posts on my another website, and they started ranking in the first-second page of search results.
I will come up with a post on the same, but for now, you can subscribe to my Email newsletter on the sidebar for my next update.
